One of HDB's big 1970s towns
Ang Mo Kio was among the large new towns HDB began in the 1970s, and much of it was in place by the early 1980s. Many of those original blocks still stand, alongside newer HDB projects and a few private estates near the edges of the town.
After four or five decades, the fittings in many flats are well past their best. We regularly replace leaking pipes and valves, clear chokes in kitchen sinks and bathroom traps, find the cause of tripping circuits, and rehang or replace doors. HDB puts the lifespan of PVC wiring at around 25 years, which is worth knowing if your flat still has its original wiring.
