What are the safety rules for water heaters in Singapore?
The Consumer Product Safety Office advises having a licensed electrical worker (LEW) wire the water heater, connecting it directly to the mains through a double pole switch, and never running it from an extension cord or multi-way adaptor. A storage water heater should come with a pressure relief valve, and a heater that looks damaged or is leaking should not be used.
On the plumbing side, PUB lists replacing the pipe between a stop valve and an instantaneous water heater as simple plumbing work that doesn't need a licensed plumber. Other water service work, such as new supply pipes to a heater, is regulated work for a PUB-licensed plumber.
Can I use Climate Vouchers for a water heater?
Yes, for eligible models. From 1 April 2026, Climate Vouchers can be used only for 5-tick water heaters, following the start of mandatory energy labelling for water heaters. The voucher terms don't say whether installation is covered, so check with the retailer when you buy.

Common problems
No hot water: a switched-off or tripped supply, a failed heating element or thermostat, or a faulty flow switch in an instant heater. Water heater trips the power: often earth leakage in the element or wiring. Stop using it and get it checked (see Electrical Troubleshooting). Water only lukewarm: a failing element, scale build-up, or too much flow through an instant heater. Leak from the heater or its pipes: a loose connection, a worn pressure relief valve or a corroded tank. Stop using a leaking heater. Rusty or discoloured hot water: corrosion inside an ageing storage tank. Heater making noises: scale build-up in the tank or on the element. Ageing storage heater: replacing it before it fails avoids a leak in the ceiling space.
What the work covers
We check the existing heater, pipes and isolating switch, then remove the old unit and mount the new one securely. Water connections are made with new fittings, the heater is filled and checked for leaks, and hot water is tested at each outlet. Wiring the heater to its double pole switch is work for a licensed electrical worker.

New installations, which need new mounting or pipework, start from $180 and $300. The heater itself is not included unless agreed. Electrical faults are inspected first and then quoted.
