About rubbish chute replacement

Rubbish chute replacement in Singapore costs $250 for an HDB flat and $300 for a condo at SG QuickFix. Both prices include the new hopper and the labour to fit it, so there is no separate charge for parts.

The rubbish chute hopper is the metal inlet with a hinged flap in the kitchen wall of many older HDB flats and some condos. Over time the flap rusts, bends or stops closing, which lets smells and pests into the kitchen. Replacing the hopper fixes this without touching the chute pipe behind it.

When should the hopper be replaced?

  • The flap is rusted through, bent or no longer closes on its own.
  • The hopper is loose in the wall or the frame is cracked.
  • Smells or cockroaches come into the kitchen through the chute.
  • Rubbish catches on a dented inlet instead of dropping down the chute.

HDB flats and condos

  • HDB flats: the in-kitchen hopper is found mainly in older blocks. Newer blocks use a shared chute in the common corridor, which the town council maintains.
  • Condos: hopper sizes and finishes vary between developments. Send us a photo on WhatsApp so we bring a matching hopper. Some condos ask residents to inform management before works.

Common problems

Rusted flap or hinge: kitchen moisture rusts older hoppers until the flap sticks or falls off. Flap that will not close: lets smells and pests into the kitchen. Dented or bent inlet: rubbish bags catch on the edge instead of dropping down. Loose hopper: the frame has come away from the wall around the chute opening. Broken handle: the flap is hard to open without touching the dirty inlet.

What the work covers

We remove the old hopper, clean the opening and fit a new hopper sized for your chute. The new hopper is secured to the wall, the gaps around the frame are sealed, and we check that the flap opens and closes properly. The old hopper is taken away.

  • Remove old hopper
  • Supply new hopper
  • Fit & secure to chute
  • Check flap closes

Pricing & conditions

Rubbish chute replacement is a fixed price: $250 for an HDB flat and $300 for a condo, including the new hopper and labour. Send a photo of your current hopper on WhatsApp so we can confirm the size before the visit. The price is confirmed before work starts.

Not included: repairs to the chute pipe itself or the shared refuse chute in common areas, which are maintained by the town council or condo management, and tiling or wall repairs around the opening beyond sealing the new frame.
