Task guide
When this may be needed
- The basin tap drips even when turned off tightly.
- The tap is loose and swivels on the basin.
- The handle is stiff from limescale.
- The chrome has peeled or corroded.
- You are upgrading to a single-lever basin mixer.
What the team does
The technician closes the angle valve under the basin, or the meter stopcock if there isn't one. The flexible hose is disconnected and the tap's fixing nut under the basin is released. The new tap is fitted with its seal, tightened so it can't turn, and connected with the existing hose if it is in good condition or a new one if not. The water is turned on, the tap is run hot and cold where applicable, and every joint is checked for leaks.
Included in this price
- Isolating the water
- Removing the old tap and cleaning the basin surface
- Fitting and tightening the new tap with its seal
- Reconnecting and leak-testing
Limits & price factors
The tap is charged on top of labour, and a flexible hose if needed. Replacing a cracked basin and work on the supply pipes are not included.
The labour price covers one tap on a standard basin. Seized fixing nuts, basins with tight access under a vanity cabinet, and converting from two pillar taps to one mixer take longer.
