Quick answer
IKEA Singapore's assembly fee is 10% of an item's original retail price, available only on truck deliveries, plus a $35 call-out if assembly is added after delivery. For one truck-delivered item, IKEA's fee is usually lower. SG QuickFix prices assembly per item, such as a PAX wardrobe from $150, however it arrived.

How much does IKEA charge for assembly in Singapore?
IKEA Singapore charges 10% of the original product's retail price to assemble furniture, and only for items delivered by IKEA's truck.
That rate covers "all other furniture that requires assembly", according to IKEA Singapore's assembly service page. The exceptions are three sofa ranges, LANDSKRONA, STOCKHOLM and VISKAFORS, which IKEA assembles free. IKEA's pages list no minimum charge, so on IKEA's stated rate a $89 BILLY bookcase would cost $8.90 to assemble.
You add assembly at online checkout or in store, and the team comes with the truck delivery. The work is done by IKEA's third-party service provider. Kitchen and bathroom fixtures, and integrated lighting on furniture such as PAX, can only be arranged in store.
A handyman charges a price per item instead. See IKEA and flat-pack assembly prices for SG QuickFix's rates, or the full handyman price list for Singapore for other jobs.
What other IKEA delivery and assembly charges apply?
Assembly needs IKEA's $35 truck delivery; adding assembly after delivery costs a $35 call-out per trip on top of the assembly fee.
| Charge | Amount | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Assembly | 10% of retail price | Items in a truck delivery; three sofa ranges free |
| Home (truck) delivery | $35 per order | Needed for assembly |
| Staircase delivery | $20 flat | No lift, or items don't fit the lift; 3rd floor up, to the 5th floor only |
| Separate assembly trip | $35 per trip, plus assembly at prevailing rates | Assembly booked after delivery |
| Drilling without assembly | $5 per hole | Wall-mounted items bought without assembly; request 3+ days before delivery |
| Parcel delivery | $10 or $20 by weight | Small items; no assembly |
These fees are listed in IKEA Singapore's customer service FAQ. A separate assembly trip is booked by phone, and IKEA calls the $35 a current rate that is subject to change.
For wall-mounted items bought without assembly, IKEA's installation page says to request drilling from customer care or the in-store home delivery counter at least 3 days before delivery. The per-hole fee is paid on the day, and ad-hoc drilling and staircase charges have been cashless only since 1 Jul 2025.

What doesn't IKEA's assembly service cover?
IKEA's assembly excludes items not delivered by its truck, electrical and plumbing work, and assembly on false ceilings and partition walls.
The exclusions come from IKEA Singapore's assembly service page and its terms of purchase:
- Parcel and self-collected items. Assembly "is only available for truck deliveries", so small parcel items and anything you carry home don't qualify.
- Electrical and plumbing work. Both are excluded.
- False ceilings and partition walls. IKEA's assembly page says "no assembly on false ceilings and partition walls". BTO flats use drywall partitions, so ask IKEA before booking if a wardrobe or shelf must be fixed to one.
- Kitchens. Kitchen installation is a separate service from 20% of the original retail price, with a $200 minimum.
- Moving or rebuilding furniture. IKEA's pages offer assembly only with a new order and list no dismantle-and-reassemble service for a move.
- Changes of mind. Once the order and services are paid and confirmed, no changes or cancellations are allowed.
IKEA's 10% vs a handyman: what do real items cost?
IKEA's 10% runs from $1.29 (LACK side table) to $138 (2-metre PAX); SG QuickFix charges from $40 for a side table.
| IKEA item and price | IKEA 10% fee | With separate-trip call-out | SG QuickFix assembly |
|---|---|---|---|
| LACK side table 55x55cm, $12.90 | $1.29, truck orders only | $36.29 | From $40 |
| BILLY bookcase 80x202cm, $89 | $8.90 | $43.90 | From $60 |
| KALLAX shelving unit 77x147cm, $89.90 | $8.99 | $43.99 | From $60 |
| MALM high bed frame 150x200cm with Luröy slats, $349 | $34.90 | $69.90 | From $70 |
| PAX/FORSAND wardrobe 150x236cm, $735 | $73.50 | $108.50 | From $150 |
| PAX/MEHAMN/AULI sliding wardrobe 200x236cm, $1,380 | $138 | $173 | From $150 |
A rule of ten decides it. IKEA's percentage costs more than a handyman only when the item's retail price is more than ten times the handyman's price for that item. For most single items in a truck delivery, IKEA's fee is the lower one. On the largest PAX wardrobes the two are close, and a separate IKEA trip can cost more than a handyman.
IKEA's route also needs its $35 truck delivery; a handyman assembles the item however it arrived. SG QuickFix prices each item separately, and the price includes tools, fixings, packaging removal and cleanup.
For an accurate handyman price, send the IKEA product names or your order list, plus a photo of the wall each tall item will stand against.
Is IKEA assembly worth it, or is a handyman better?
IKEA's assembly is worth it for truck-delivered items going against concrete walls; a handyman fits better when IKEA's rules exclude you.
| Point | IKEA assembly service | Handyman |
|---|---|---|
| How it's priced | 10% of each item's retail price | A price per item |
| What it covers | IKEA items in a truck delivery | Any brand, however it arrived |
| When you book | At checkout or in store; call-out if added later | Before or after the items arrive |
| Partition walls | "No assembly" on partition walls | Fixed into a stud or a heavy-duty drywall anchor |
| Moving house | Not offered | Dismantling and reassembly |
Which should you choose?
- A PAX or bed frame arriving by truck: tick IKEA's assembly at checkout. It is usually the cheaper route.
- Boxes already delivered without assembly: compare IKEA's fee plus the call-out with a handyman's price for the item.
- Parcel, self-collected or mixed brands: a handyman, because IKEA's service can't take these. Taobao furniture assembly in Singapore has its own quirks.
- A wardrobe against a BTO drywall partition: a handyman who fixes into drywall, unless IKEA confirms it will.
- Moving flat: a handyman to dismantle and reassemble, from $100.
Do you need to anchor IKEA furniture to an HDB wall?
Yes: IKEA's product pages say MALM chests, PAX wardrobes, BILLY bookcases and KALLAX shelves must be fixed or anchored to the wall.
IKEA's assembly service installs the tip-over restraint, and if you decline, that is recorded on the proof of delivery. IKEA's PAX pages say the wall fastener is enclosed, but fixings suited to your wall are sold separately. The BILLY page adds that you need space between the top of the unit and the ceiling to anchor it. For an IKEA chest of drawers already standing unsecured, IKEA's Secure it or Return it programme offers a free anchoring kit, and IKEA will arrange a handyman if you're unsure how to fit it.
HDB walls take fixings differently. On concrete, the restraint goes into masonry plugs drilled with a hammer drill. On a BTO drywall partition, fix into a metal stud where one sits behind the restraint; otherwise use a heavy-duty toggle anchor of the type HDB's drywall guide lists. Tall wardrobes also raise ceiling-height questions, covered in assembling an IKEA PAX wardrobe in an HDB flat.
Should you assemble IKEA furniture yourself?
Small, freestanding IKEA items are fair DIY; tall wardrobes, drywall anchoring and moves suit a handyman.
| Safe to DIY if… | Call a professional if… |
|---|---|
| The item is small and freestanding, like a side table or stool | It's a PAX or tall wardrobe needing two people and ceiling clearance |
| You have a drill and the right plugs for a concrete wall | The restraint must go into a drywall partition, or you're unsure of the wall |
| You have one or two items and a free afternoon | You have several items, mixed brands or a move to handle |
| You can fix the item to a concrete wall that isn't the household shelter | The only free wall is the household shelter wall: don't anchor furniture to it, so choose another spot |
The most common DIY mistakes are skipping the tip-over restraint, plastic plugs in drywall, building a PAX where it can't be tilted upright under the ceiling, cam locks not fully turned, and doors left unlevelled. Assemble only once you're sure of the item: IKEA's FAQ says assembled goods can't be returned.

Furniture Assembly FAQs
Yes. IKEA Singapore can send its assembly team on a separate trip after delivery, booked by phone. IKEA charges a call-out fee of $35 per trip, a rate it says may change, and charges the assembly separately at its prevailing rate, currently 10% of the retail price.
IKEA Singapore's terms of purchase say no changes or cancellations are allowed once the order and its services are paid and confirmed. Decide on assembly before you pay. If you skipped it, a handyman or IKEA's separate assembly trip are the options after delivery.
IKEA Singapore says drilling is included when assembly is booked, and its assembly team installs the tip-over restraint on furniture that comes with one. For wall-mounted items bought without assembly, request drilling at least 3 days before delivery; IKEA charges $5 per hole, paid cashless on the day.
No. IKEA Singapore says its assembly service is only available for truck deliveries, so items you carry home from the store or receive by parcel delivery don't qualify. A handyman can assemble them at a price per item, for example a bookshelf from $60.
Usually not. IKEA Singapore's FAQ says assembled goods can't be returned, and its terms accept assembled items only at IKEA's absolute discretion, if they are re-saleable. Check the size, colour and fit of the space before anything is assembled.
IKEA Singapore's kitchen installation is a separate service from furniture assembly. IKEA charges from 20% of the kitchen's original retail price, or a $200 minimum, whichever is higher. Kitchen and bathroom fixtures can only be arranged in store.
IKEA Singapore doesn't publish an assembly lead time; its home delivery can typically be booked within 7 working days. The assembly itself varies: a side table takes minutes, a BILLY or KALLAX 30 to 60 minutes, a MALM bed frame 1 to 2 hours, and a 6-drawer MALM chest 2 to 3 hours.
