Choke Clearing

Basin Choke Clearing in Singapore

Basin choke clearing starts from $80 at SG QuickFix. A bathroom basin that drains slowly or holds water is usually blocked by hair, soap and toothpaste in the pop-up waste or the bottle trap below it. Most basin chokes are cleared in 30 to 45 minutes, and PUB lists clearing a blockage in a sanitary appliance as simple plumbing work.

Task guide

When this may be needed

  • The basin drains slowly and leaves a ring of scum.
  • Water stands in the basin after brushing teeth.
  • The pop-up plug no longer lifts or seals properly.
  • The basin smells of drains.
  • The overflow gurgles when the basin empties.

What the team does

The technician removes and cleans the pop-up waste, where hair often wraps around the plug, then unscrews the bottle trap and clears it. If the blockage is further down, the waste pipe is cleared with a hand auger from the trap opening. The trap is refitted with its seal seated correctly, the basin is filled and drained to check the flow, and the trap is checked for leaks.

Included in this price

  • Cleaning the pop-up waste and plug
  • Clearing the bottle trap
  • Augering the waste pipe where needed
  • Testing the flow and checking for leaks

Limits & price factors

Replacing a cracked trap or worn waste is charged as a part; see Sink and Basin Plumbing. Blockages in the main stack are maintained by the town council in HDB blocks.

The price starts from $80. Blockages beyond the trap that need an auger, worn trap seals and basins in tight vanity cabinets take longer.
