Electrical Troubleshooting / Power Trip
Appliance Tripping the Power in Singapore
Appliance-related trip diagnosis starts from $80 at SG QuickFix. When the power trips as soon as a particular appliance is switched on, or only while it runs, the appliance, its plug and the socket are tested to find whether the fault is in the appliance or the home's wiring. Most diagnoses take 30 to 60 minutes.

Task guide
When this may be needed
- The power trips when the washing machine reaches its heating cycle.
- The RCCB trips when the kettle, oven or water heater is switched on.
- The fridge trips the power at night when its compressor starts.
- A new appliance trips the power from its first use.
- The trip happens only with one appliance in one socket.
What the team does
The technician notes when the trip happens and which appliances were running, then tests the suspected appliance's plug and cord and the socket it uses. The appliance is tried on another circuit to see whether the trip follows it. If it does, the appliance is faulty and should be repaired by its service centre or replaced. If the trip stays with the socket or circuit, the wiring is traced and the repair priced.
Included in this price

Limits & price factors

The price starts from $80. Trips that happen only occasionally, or only in wet weather, can take longer to reproduce.
FAQs
The heating element or motor may be leaking current to earth, often from moisture or wear. Water reaching the socket or plug in a service yard is another common cause.
The compressor starts by itself, so a fault in it can trip the RCCB while everyone is asleep. Noting the time helps the diagnosis.
No. If an appliance trips the RCCB, stop using it until it has been checked. The RCCB trips to protect against shock.
